    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

Partly in response to Transforming Trust Into Trade by MIKHAIL S. GORBACHEV http://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/30/opinion/30GORB.html , I've set out things that the Russians could do, and that I think they need to work on, to make trade and economic cooperation between Russian and the US more workable. From MD6229 rshowalter 6/30/01 12:57pm ... to MD6337 rshowalter 6/30/01 1:53pm . . . I've set out issues, mostly discussed before on this thread, that emphasized Russian shortcomings.

After MD6339 rshowalter 6/30/01 3:05pm especially MD6343 rshowalter 6/30/01 3:19pm ...., I've referenced issues that involve central, essential issues that must be dealt with for any militarily sane "trust" -- and these posts have emphasized American shortcomings -- shortcomings that Russia, from time to time, may also show.

The problems involved, as they relate to peace, cooperation, and military balances are mutually dependent, and the solutions are mutually dependent as well.

For most of the 20th century, our countries have been closed to each other, at many levels.

We have chances to make contacts, at many levels, now. As contact increases,

trade can increase;

cooperation can increase;

we can see each other as full human beings;

we can negotiate with each other in more different ways, through more channels;

and we can check in more satisfactory ways, so that military reasons for fear can be better evaluated, and better controlled.

Interesting to watch the interactions between Bwsh and Fox.

Fox doesn't beat about the bush, he understands the needs and wants of his people. He Mexi-cEo has a true business background. He wants Mexican people to stand shoulder to shoulder with USA people. He wants the Mexican people who assist the 'american' economy to be recognised and treated with respect in the USA.

My understanding of the BwshNazi system currently operating - as demo'd via doccos, before our eyes on Oz_tv - is this:

People who are residents of america, can at the drop of a hat be rounded up and imprisoned. They are rounded up and imprisoned. Without regard to their value and function in the community.

A person who has lived for decades in america, but, doesn't have a piece of paper/passport .. may be imprisoned and split from their family.

Here the business cultivated for years that supports their spouse/children who may have full citizenship, is trashed. Family watch helplessly as, perhaps a husband/father is locked away.

From being functional and independent the family becomes a welfare case. These things are happening when residents do as little as violate a parking regulation.

The family are traumatised, as are the people within the community who ask - what's happening, why the senseless destruction?

Seems that the americans have spent decades denigrating 'other' systems external to 'america' .. yet are happy to carry-out manditory witch_hunts to take people down, even export them, without any consideration for humanity, 'the family', sociocultural, or economic functionality.

Fox wants equity and dignity. I heard Bwsh saying that the relationship - to be developed between Mexico and the USA is unique. Leaving me wondering - is it? Remember the way East Germany was absorbed, the way EU wannaBez are assisted with development, note how China is setting out to improve and upgrade - to pass the test - to stand shoulder to shoulder on the world stage come 2008.

That two ajacent countries trade and undertake mutually acceptable activities - isn't new, is it?
