    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

It is easy to wast the resources that money buys - - and Keynes was clear about that.

We shouldn't be for "potlaches" -- we're not that rich, and the world is too poor for the waste.

The engineering resources wasted on a missile defense that cannot work could be used to much more advantage -- and in ways that all concerned could be more proud of.

Expert Evidence ... 'The applicability of a particular rule of evidence often depends upon the existence of a condition. Is the alleged expert a qualified physician? Is a witness whose former testimony is offered unavailable? Was a stranger present during a conversation between attorney and client? In each instance the admissibility of evidence will turn upon the answer to the question of the existence of the condition. Accepted practice, incorporated in the rule, places on the judge the responsibility for these determinations' http://www.currentlegal.com/uscourtrules/fre/r0104.html

It seems to me it should be clear -- a million man hours wasted is a million man-hours wasted. The people may be paid, but if their output is a 0, they should have been doing something else.

Survey: Young Australians (born here) where asked to rate 'How Australian' they felt
... 1 in 8 scored below 60%
(Wonder what the results would be for USA (saluteFlag) or Russia)
... or does it mean that the young see themselves as belonging to the world or youth culture, then associating with the national culture.

This board makes me proud to be a citizen of the United States of America.

I've got lots of concerns about my country. And about the welfare of people.

But the fact that I haven't been shot, or stopped, and that the board goes on, is a tribute to values in the United States that are worth a lot of respect.
