    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

But there ARE some essentials that have to be made clear -- to many minds.

It seems to me that Condoleezza Rice, Stephen J. Hadley, and some other deeply (but in decisive ways, narrowly) educated people, are getting grossly bad advice, both on matters of technical fact, and on matters of possible negotiation with other countries. And they are misinforming the President of the United States and members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives . Perhaps they are misinforming these important, powerful people because they are being encouraged to do so in ways that are partly corrupt. But perhaps they are doing so in good faith, as they understand it, because they have made some key assumptions, that may seem axiomatic to them, that happen to be wrong and misleading.

Things need to be checked. It can happen a step at at time, and to some degree, it is happening.

This can't be what Rice and Hadley have in mind. Or is it?
