    Missile Defense

Russian military leaders have expressed concern about US plans for a national missile defense system. Will defense technology be limited by possibilities for a strategic imbalance? Is this just SDI all over again?

All I've read so far is the same old negative responses and excuses. Does anyone have any positive ideas they could share as to how we keep our country safe and free for the next 50 years?

1) Ask Canada?

2) Read that book "How to Make Friends and Influence People"?

3) All move to New Hampshire?

4) All move to Kosovo for a month and speak Serbian, then the survivors move back to the US with a renewed sense of security?

No one defense system will protect us against all attempts to cause damage to our country, but each system adds to our protection. If you have a better idea lets hear about it.

For a mere $30,000, I'll be happy to come over and build a 50 ft. deep camouflaged cement bunker for you, with internet connections & everything.

If you have an extra $15 K, I'll even use recycled DU, so's it's 100% impenetrable.

Interested?

Personally, I can't figure out why Bush is called a conservative.

Conservatives usually stick to something that works.

How does one defend against?:

1. ship cargo containers

2. a cargo ship with one of a thousands Toyotas containing a nuclear missile

3. a small nuclear weapon on a banana boat

4. a Salmon or Tuna boat full of conventional explosives

5. a speed boat with biological weapons on board

6. a cruise ship, your bags were checked when boarding??

When missiles are launched you always know the country of origin. Why bother when “old launch” technology is easier, cheaper and difficult to trace?

Missiles are a total waste of money.

I see 3 reasons for not building now a so called missile shield.

1. It will anger our allies. Only isolationists can love this eventuallaity.

2. The technology is not ready. Unlike the space effort, here we don't really know how to do it. No tests have so far been successful, other than the one which was rigged by the Air Force. A false sense of security is worse than none at all.

3. The 'rogue' nations would not lob missiles at us in the first place. There are much more effective ways of getting a bomb here than by missile, and a lot cheaper and more accurate, too. Why build an expensive and fragile missile system when you can put your bomb in a tramp steamer and motor it into New York harbor? This also avoids the need to make a bomb small enough to be a passenger on a missile.

Why can't the conservatives see this? C'mon, Garwin, let's hear from you on this.

Why is there still a war mentality in the US ? Is there any reason for this ? Has the US been invaded recently ?

Just call it "The Superpower Syndrome".

Oops, didn't realize the acronym becomes "The SS".

Hope that's not prophetic.

To say that Bush is not the brightest apple in the bunch is perhaps obvious, unfortunately he's just bright enough to be dangerous. His defense policy resembles a playground fight yet I believe that if left to his own devices you can rest assured that your children or mine will learn to duck and cover once again in grade school. Suggestions for change? prevention of this policy? Call everyone you know, email anyone who will listen. All else fails, move to an island.

Missile Defense .... what is the ultimate goal ?

Not to have to use Missiles?

Which takes everyone back to living in perfect harmony! Achieved via negotiation, communication, an awareness and sense of interconection, to build a world that offers real futures for present and future generations.

The rogue states - these seem to be nations that are in chaos and broken down .. Iran Iraq Sudan .. have populations who know hell.

Rather than taunt the supposed rogue states, the USA might put relief and reconstruction programs into place that liberate the general population and enable them to function at a respectable level.

How much would it cost to 'assist' a country out of hell - with a positive result guaranteed ?
